Songs and shots

Sunday has been scheduled as immunization day at the BKU clinic.  Edith, the public health nurse, has generously agreed to work on Sunday and brings her supplies which include vaccines, deworming pills and vitamin A supplements.  We are impressed by her patience and kindness towards all the children.  Several families from the community attend for immunization, but perhaps not as many as in previous years.

The BKU kids are in church, and our ears are stimulated by repeated vigorous songs wafting through the air.  Alice, one of the older girls, brings small groups over from the church for attention by the nurses.  Overall, the children are very brave in receiving their shots.

Alan and Micah enjoy some cuddles with little Moses and George, while baby Angel gets even more comfortable with Susan.

Some of our group goes over for the last part of the church service, which includes a hearty "happy birthday" to Victoria.  She feels it makes most sense to celebrate the occasion on a day when most kids would be gathered together.  The ceremonial cake is cut and distributed, and we mzungus deliver some portions back to the clinic for the nurses and babies.

Our group has opted for a quiet afternoon by the pool, and a few of us grab an afternoon nap.  Micah joins us for a chicken dinner at BV, then we all retire quite early.
