Portraits

Brenda Namaganda

This very talented and bright young woman was referred to Bright Kids after she excelled in her primary grades at the Great Kings and Queens School (Medi's school) near her village just outside Kampala.  She excels in visual arts and dance along with academics.  This very cheerful girl hopes to pursue a career in journalism.  Debbie and Richard Verkruisen and family have recently started to sponsor Brenda.

Jackson

Brenda's older brother, Jackson, also has a love of dance and music.  He is a very bright and personable young man.

Sara Banura Babirye

Sara has always been outgoing and fun-loving.  She enjoys reading and studying the humanities.  Her career goals are still uncertain.  She is starting Senior 2 and is sponsored by Susan and Alan Konyer.

Moses Kabanda

This young fellow is starting Primary 4 (P4).  Not yet sure about his final career path, he loves football and bike riding.  Carly Wilson and Scott Padget are his sponsors.

Cutie Ashibin

Cutie will be starting in P3 at the same school as Moses.  He is a little quieter than his half brother  Moses, but enjoys the same outdoor activities.  Bruno and Helen Franceschini sponsor little Cutie.

Shatura

This energetic and bright girl quickly captures the hearts of anyone who meets her.  Shatura is starting P5 and may well be a future president of Uganda.  She enjoys biking and swimming.  Her sponsors are Sue & Garth Whitford of Lindsay.

Saleh Katumba

Saleh is starting P3.  This very cute boy enthralled our friend Leslie with his mischievous streak.  He excels in academics and loves swimming and football.  His sponsor is Charity Callahan and her son Alex of Calgary.

Charlotte Nassali

Saleh's younger sibling is starting P2.  She has a bit of a rough exterior and stubborn streak, but after you get to know her you will appreciate her warm and tender heart.  She loves outdoor activities and games.  She is sponsored by Charity Callahan and her daughter Sarah.

Shakira

Shatura's older sibling lived with her Dad until this last school break when his employment changed and made it impossible to continue caring for her at home.  She is a delightful young lady and very respectful.  Shakira is starting into P6.  Her favourite subject is English.  Our Kulikayo team have decided to support her school fees at a day school for the next year.

Sandra Namakula

Sandra is starting her S4 year in school.  She was referred to Kulikayo by Harry Neilson, who knows her mother.  Sandra was born with a cardiac valve abnormality and was sent to India for valve replacement surgery as a young girl.  She requires follow-up medical care and ongoing daily medications which is cost-prohibitive to the family.  Sandra doesn't let her medical issues hold her back from sports.  Her sponsors are Carly Wilson & Scott Padget.

Marjorie

Marjorie is Sandra's younger sibling and has an equally pleasant personality.  The two girls obviously have a very close bond.  She is starting S3 this year.  Marjorie is not currently supported by Kulikayo.

Hasifah Nandego

This quiet girl grew up in a small village outside Jinja in eastern Uganda.  Her parents both died of AIDS, and she lived with her grandmother in the village until that caregiver died last year.  The uncle who inherited the small farm would not allow her to stay on the property.  Hasifah is starting S4 and obviously will benefit from ongoing psychological as well as financial support.  Doris and Robert Keeler of Port Perry have generously offered to support this brave young woman.
