Meeting new friends

Arriving at 5 am in Entebbe, we are thrilled to be among the first off the plane to line up for visas, but are then surprised by an official requesting our yellow fever vaccination record. Susan is the only one of our group having her card with her, so we are sent to a booth where a nurse is giving shots. We all have been vaccinated, but have become lax about carrying our cards. The nurse lets us go with a strict warning we will need to produce a certificate when we leave in two weeks.

Our transport company sent a minivan which is overwhelmed by our 8 large bags, so we wait while they send for a larger truck. Nadine manages to fall asleep right away, and I go down for a nap in the afternoon. Otherwise, we meet up with Jackie and go in to Victoria Mall for supplies and a SIM card for my phone and Carly's.
It's great to finally meet Harry in person

We meet with Jackie, the lady who is working with us to implement the Kulikayoo project, which is focused on supporting underprivileged children to stay in their own homes and communities. We also meet Jackie's boyfriend Majid who is a doctor who just opened a clinic east of Kampala, and Harry, a retired software industry worker from upstate New York who's lived in Uganda the past 12 years.

we meet Wasswa Hussein, the boy whom my mother sponsors at BKU.  He is a fine young man.

The Banana Village staff serve up a delicious spread which we enjoy tremendously. I take the opportunity to snap a few portraits, and, with the exception of Sue, we imbibe in a bit too much Jack Daniels Honey after our Ugandan friends leave.
