Gathering supplies

Wow - can't believe we're down to 3 weeks or less until departure.  Seems to be just so much to organize.

Alicia finished high school and completed her short trip to Florida visiting her Papa.  As soon as she returned this past weekend, we couriered our passports and visa applications to the Uganda High Commission in Ottawa - just praying there are no delays or hiccups obtaining our visas.

We visited my colleague, Dr. Mike Lingley, at his Round Trip Travel clinic in Markham back in December and bravely endured our yellow fever and hepatitis vaccinations.  Just filled our scripts for malaria and traveller's diarrhea meds.
Everyone's been so wonderful about pitching in to help with supplies or donations.  We have markers, crayons, colouring books, stickers, soccer balls for the kids.  On the medical end of things for clinic supplies, we have sourced fever meds, flu & cold medicines, bandaids, antiseptic wipes & hand cleaner, vitamins.  Other things for our use including mosquito repellant (surprised to find it still on the Home Hardware shelves in February, flashlights and a head lamp.  I've spoken to the staff at the Peterborough & Lindsay Access Centres (home care) and they are trying to source dressing supplies.  I will be speaking to Ali, my local pharmacist friend, about purchasing antibiotics and deworming agents to take overseas for clinic use.

We sent a couple of boxes of supplies for the kids through a shipping company in Boston back before Christmas - expecting those will arrive in Kampala around the time we are there.

I'm meeting with our good friend Mary Lou and her friends in administration at Fleming College this week.  They are exploring the possibility of arranging a trip involving students & faculty from their early childhood education and nursing programs to visit Bright Kids a year from now!  All this is very exciting.

We very much hope there will be time & resources to publish pictures to this blog while we're overseas.  Planning to capture loads of images.

Found an interesting on-line magazine on culture & art in Kampala.  Check it out:
